The Human Services Center Mon Valley presents a FREE Seminar: Introduction to Advocacy for Nonprofits
with Dave Coplan MPA, MSW
Thursday, March 26, 2026 from 10AM - 11:30AM

This seminar is an introduction for those with limited experience with advocacy. It will prepare you for how your nonprofit organization can engage in effective public policy advocacy on behalf of your mission and the people it serves. It will also support you in better engaging your constituencies in those advocacy and lobbying efforts.

The following topics will be covered with a focus on best practices and practical approaches for your agency to implement:

  • Framing the importance of advocacy for nonprofits – what is at stake
  • National Voter Registration Act, voter registration, impact of engagement campaigns, tracking
  • The need for homework – fact finding, where to find the facts
  • Understanding the legislative process
  • Engaging your legislators
  • Working with regulators
  • Evaluating your efforts
