Hi there!
My name is Marilyn Michelle Reynolds, and I am the Multicultural Outreach Coordinator at the Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE).
Currently, over 100,000 people in the U.S. are waiting for lifesaving organ transplants, and nearly 60% of them come from multicultural communities. However, only 22% of individuals in these communities are registered donors. Conditions such as kidney disease, heart disease, and diabetes disproportionately affect these populations, making prevention and education increasingly important.
Alarmingly, within the Jefferson Foundation footprint, multiple communities have a 100% denial rate for organ donation authorizations.
To tackle these challenges, CORE has formed a Multicultural Task Force—an advocacy group dedicated to empowering multicultural communities through health education and culturally relevant outreach. This task force focuses on:
- Developing grassroots outreach strategies that build trust and address barriers to organ donation.
- Empowering individuals and families to take charge of their health and prevent chronic diseases.
- Providing accurate information about the importance of organ, tissue, and cornea donation and transplantation.
- Building community partnerships that enhance resources, influence, and impact.
We are currently seeking active, engaged individuals interested in joining the task force, as well as community partners who want to collaborate with us to spread this mission.
If you are interested in joining or learning more, I would be honored to connect with you.
With gratitude,
Marilyn Michelle Reynolds
