Age-Friendly Greater Pittsburgh brings people of all ages together to rethink how our neighborhoods are built and to take action to make them more inclusive and respectful of every generation. Through advocacy, education and intergenerational programs, they collaborate with organizations and residents to make Allegheny County a better place to grow old. They also convene work groups focused on digital access, workforce development, housing, transportation and dementia-friendly initiatives. Age-Friendly is an initiative by Southwestern Pennsylvania Partnership for Aging (SWPPA), Chatham University and University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work. Age-Friendly announced their inaugural group of Age-Friendly Neighborhoods in Spring 2022: Clairton, Coraopolis and the Hill District. Age-Friendly will support neighborhood leaders who want to improve the experiences of older adults and people of all ages in their neighborhood. Age-Friendly also convened an Age-Friendly Community Panel in 2022, with 9 primarily older residents serving as age-friendly consultants across the county. Several Panel members represent communities in the Jefferson area.
